The January 2026 edition of Canadian Family Physician begins a series of reflections on Dr. Ian McWhinney as part of recognizing his contributions to family medicine on what would be his 100th birthday this October. This series begins with an introduction entitled: Finding safe harbour: Reassessing 9 principles of family medicine in difficult times, Part 1 of the 10-part series, “Foundations for tomorrow”. Authors are: Thomas R. Freeman MD MClSc(FM) CCFP FCFP, David Ponka MDCM CCFP(EM) FCFP MSc, Nicholas Pimlott MD PhD CCFP FCFP.
Moira Stewart was also featured in the January 2026 edition of Canadian Family Physician under Discussion/Perspectives in a paper entitled “Revisiting, reassessing, and reinterpreting 2 big ideas for family medicine” – 2025 Dr. Ian McWhinney Lecture Series.

Sonja Reichert, Associate Professor, Centre for Studies in Family Medicine, Department of Family Medicine was recently interviewed for several media platforms (as noted in Schulich Today- Schulich in the Media newsfeed):
- Global News interviewed Schulich professor Dr. Sonja Reichert on the new Wegovy weight-loss pill approved in the U.S. for diabetes care.
- Sonja Reichert provided expert comment in a CBC News story (online, CBC The National and CBC World Report) about evidence showing people who stopped taking GLP-1 weight loss medications like Ozempic regained weight faster than those who stopped a diet or exercise program. Dr. Reichert also joined CBC Ontario Today for a discussion with listeners about their experiences with weight-loss medications.
- CTV News Channel(part 1, part 2) and Global News interviewed Dr. Sonja Reichert about GLP-1 weight loss medications.
- The County Grapevine on 99.3 FM in Prince Edward County interviewed Dr. Sonja Reichert about new findings that show patients rapidly regained weight after they stopped using weight loss drugs.

CSFM Brown Bag Lunch Seminar
The CSFM Brown Bag Lunch Seminar series continues for 2026 on the second Wednesday of each month from 12pm-1:00pm. The February seminar showcased Dr. Kamila Premji discussing changes to the family physician workforce.
On March 11th from 12 noon – 1pm, the seminar will feature Dr. Judith Belle Brown presenting “Interprofessional Team Performance in Primary Care”.
In the April 8th session, Shannon Sibbald will take a closer look at “Understanding Lives Experiences of Persons Living with COPD and their Family Caregivers”.
